With all the talk about the ever-changing, mysterious Google algorithms and the upheaval in search engine rankings, this is a good time to give your site a Google check-up. The first thing you want to make sure of is that you have Google analytics enabled on your site.
Using Google Analytics used to be a bit trickier and involved editing your theme files. Since that’s not something all WordPress users feel comfortable doing, iThemes made the commitment way back in 2008 to have an easy place in the settings area to insert the javascript code in every theme we produce. Since then, many other have jumped on the bandwagon.
For most of our themes, this is located in your WP Dashboard at My Theme –> Settings.
Obviously you have to have a Google account so that you can log in to https://www.google.com/analytics to enter your site name and receive the correct tracking code.
iThemes Builder has a specific Google Analytics options settings. Here are some easy instructions for enabling Google Analytics. The theme being used is iThemes Builder, but the steps are similar for whatever theme you are using.
This is a really simple step, but you would be surprised as the number of people who forget to follow-through with it. Don’t miss out on some good Google love just because you forgot to switch this on!
