Last week we released iThemes Builder 3.1.1. Included in this latest update is a super-easy-to-use favicon uploader.
Favicons are the small image that appears next to your url when someone visits your site. Notice the tiny iThemes logo next to the url on this post.
Using a favicon is a subtle, yet powerful, part of your brand positioning. The more you can help your visitors create visual recognition of you and your brand, the stronger your branding becomes. And a strong brand is a an asset in any type of marketirng.
With the new favicon uploader, you have the option of uploading your own image or logo, or selecting from one of the default favicons we’ve provided for you.
The thing that makes this even simpler to use is that you don’t have to worry about creating your image in the .ico format (required for favicons). This uploader will automatically generate the .ico version of your image from your JPG, PNG or GIF file.
The key to remember is that the favicon itself will only be 16 pixels x 16 pixels, so it needs to be square, and it needs to look good really, really small. Go for simplicity and less detail to make it easier for your customers to recognize. If you have a complex logo, maybe a one-color silhouette of your logo could work just as well.
In this newest version of iThemes Builder, you can customize your favicon by going to My Theme > Settings > Favicon.
