3 Ways to Use WordPress Pages More Effectively

One of the often overlooked features of WordPress is its Pages.

If you’ve used WordPress for very long, you probably know that Pages are different than Posts. Pages are for more static content and outside the typical chronological display of Posts.

I thought I’d mention some ideas for using WordPress Pages effectively and also how I’ve used them …

Here are three ways you can leverage WordPress Pages effectively:

1. SHOWCASE YOUR PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

Since WP Pages are designed for static content, they can easily be placed prominently in your menu or sidebars. I use Pages to highlight and promote my products and services. And with Page Templates, offered most widely in premium themes, you can change the look of your site from the typical blog look to more of a website.

2. USE WORDPRESS AS A CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

WordPress IS a content management system, but with Pages, you can make it run an entire website easily.

In fact, I’ve helped small businesses use WordPress to power their websites — giving them an easy way to maintain their own sites, while drawing on the search engine benefits offered by WordPress.

Plus, add in the ability to use multiple layouts with Page Templates that I mentioned above and the ability to create SubPages and you can see the muscle and flexibility of WordPress.

3. HIGHLIGHT KEYWORDS FOR SEARCH ENGINES

You’ve obviously got some search engine keywords that you’d like to be found for in Google and other search engines.

Through WP Pages, you can create a Page with that keyword in the directly and URL — like I’ve done with this Web Design Page — then link to that page in your menus, sidebars, or wherever.

Of course, you’ll want to be sure and have the Google Sitemap Generator plugin installed — this is the VERY first plugin I recommend installing — so that Google has a roadmap to your content.
