Hi, I was hoping I could get a little clarification on how backup buddy backs up content.

1. I'm assuming the plugin does a full backup to start with and then does incremental backups after that, correct?

2. If that is correct, I was wondering if it also tracks deleted/moved files and then syncs all changes to the backup so that I can essentially retrieve an exact copy of my site with everything in the right place?...hope that made sense ;)

It seems like a lot of PC backup utilities like Windows Backup Manager and most of the cloud based options don't do this. So if you ever need to do a restore you have a ton of files you deleted ages ago suddenly back on your computer mixed in with every thing else.

Hope I'm making sense here.

Thanks,

Shawn

Hi Shawn

Thanks for your enquiry regarding BackupBuddy.

In answer to your questions:

1) BackupBuddy does not make incremental backups, every backup is a full backup of your complete site (except any selected excluded directories) - essentially a "snapshot" of your site at that time. You can also make database only backups and these are also full database backups each time.

If you have some directories whose content is essentially unchanging (e.g., perhaps a library of audio or video files) then you can choose to do a backup including these (or back then up by alternative means) and then exclude these directories from further backups thus reducing the backup size.

2) A restore/migrate using a full backup will recreate your site exactly as it was when the backup was taken and it is recommended that a restore/migrate is performed into a "clean" location, that is with any previous WordPress installation removed otherwise the restored/migrated site may wind up in an indeterminate state.

I hope this provides the information that you need but if you have any additional question or clarification required in this respect please let us know, thanks.

Regards...jeremy

I have purchased the backup buddy and need to know with my current wordpress web site if i can move all of the data, plugins, database and theme to another domain name on the same web server.

NOTE: The existing website data must still stay on old domain name as i will still use it i just want to move the same data to another domain name.

Please advise how this can be done ?
