I came across backupbudy and I must say - as as developer who moves WP sites by hand -- I'm impressed.  I have two pre-sales questions regarding licensing and client implementation.

1) Assume I am working on a development site locally and I use the plugin on the local site to migrate it to the live server.  Also assume that I have another backup system in place and I only needed the plugin for this migration (though your backup feature looks tempting.  Is this allowed, or are installations of the plugin tied to a site.  E.g. If I use 1 of my X licenses on site #1, then that's it.

2) What are others using as an agency-client model.  I can provide WP backups for clients as a VAS, but your plugin is as great as it seems, then I'd be hard pressed to sell a client on backup services.  ;).   Is the model to use a developer license to install the plugin for the client, and then simply charge the client for using the agency's storage server?  (E.g.  to say to the client "We manage the backup for you with this plugin and all the data goes to our [the agency's] backup servers so you don't have to worry?

Thank you for your time in answering my questions.
Best,

Hi HelpSpa,

1a. To migrate a site you would need to be using a backup created by BackupBuddy, at least for the database migration part. For getting the site's content over that can be done however if not being done with a BackupBuddy full backup.

1b. A license key is used when it is attached to a site, but when it gets unattached or deleted then it doesn't count against your allowed number. If you have a 2-site license for example and have both licenses used but want to migrate one of the sites to a new domain. You can unattach or delete the key on the one being moved bringing the effective license count down to 1. Then can generate a new one for the new site or use the one that got unattached if didn't delete it.

2. That's fine to do it that way if you want. The license system is loose enough to try and not be too much of a hindrance and can do things how you want, people use it a number of ways. What it does mean though if the unfortunate or unexpected does happen and have issues with BackupBuddy (meaning need to get support on it for backing up, migrations, etc) then it has to be done through your account by you.

Thanks,
-Akers
