Hi,
Are the backups made by your product stored in a proprietary format, or would I be able to extract the files and upload the restore the files and the database on my own if needed.

I know your plugin automates all of this which is the whole point -- but if at some point you were to hypothetically shut your doors, would I be stuck with a proprietary backup format I couldn't restore?

Yes.

BackupBuddy generated zip file is just like any other zip file from which you can extract and use any file(s) and database sql file.
