I need to backup a website that I didn't build.  It's a custom built wordpress site, and hasn't been backup'd in over 2 years.  I'd like to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress, but have some concerns with it meshing with the original site.

Will backup buddy backup the older version of wordpress as well....just in case I need to restore the old version because of poor coding?

Hi Andy,

When BackupBuddy backs up a site it backs up everything (except for what it is told not to backup) of a site. It is like it takes a screenshot of the site at that moment and when restoring or migrating with that backup it puts the site as it was in the screenshot (when the backup was created). So yes, if you take a backup of the site when it was using the older WordPress version, and then need to restore the site because the WordPress upgrade didn't go well for some reason it will be back to the old version.

What older version of WordPress is the site using though? BackupBuddy needs at least WordPress 3.1, so if it is a much older version of WordPress it may not work.
