Hi,
In the Theme Showcase thread, I have seen use of the Dark
Essence and Golden Essence themes. The colors are not the same as the
original themes in your demo. I want to confirm that if I get an
Essence theme that I can change the colors of the navigation buttons,
borders, background images, etc.

Hi Steve,
Essence comes in 6 flavours, as can be seen on the Essence page. You can modify colours, but it will require changes to the stylesheet. Our moderators are standby to provide you with the required code changes should you wish to do so, and probably there are already threads on the support form regarding this.
