I need to make a copy of a site and install it in a subfolder to start making major template and lay-out changes before I will move it back. Could I install backupbuddy, make a full backup and then install it in the subfolder without destroying anything on the previous site? (will the database see it as a new site?) If you could advice me how to use backupbuddy for my need I would be more than happy.

Hi Maritha,

Yes, BackupBuddy can create a backup (copy) of the source site, migrate that copy to a subfolder, make changes, and then migrate the subfolder site to where the main site already is. Though to be clear, it won't be able to "merge" the altered subfolder site with the main site (meaning won't be able to migrate in just the new stuff), migrating from the subfolder site to where the main site is would replace the main site with the new one. Which would result in the main site's location now having the updated subfolder site.

http://ithemes.com/tutorial/category/backupbuddy/ has a video or two showing some information about migrations. As well as the codex having some information too: http://ithemes.com/codex/page/BackupBuddy:_ImportBuddy

If need more detailed information on the process or more questions can ask in BackupBuddy's forum: http://ithemes.com/forum/forum/74-backupbuddy/

Welcome to the forums. Be sure to post your questions in the correct forum and don't forget about the new and improved search function located in the top right of the forum pages. The gear/wheel symbol next to the search box will give you more options for advanced searching. Thank you and have a nice day.
