Hi:
Before I advise my client to buy Backup Buddy I need to know if it will backup his site in full. The question is that our current back up to Dropbox plugin does not back up the site in full because we've got WordPress installed in a subfolder of the domain, following instructions from WordPress.  This plugin includes files and folders within that subfolder (from WP General Settings > WordPress Address) but seems to leave out crucial files that are in the root or parent folder (from WP General Settings > Site Address), such as .htaccess and wp-config.php (see screenshot below). Would Backup Buddy pick those files up? Thanks.

Hi AlexG,

Maybe you are doing a split URL custom home vs site URL? If so then should work. BackupBuddy will backup from the WordPress ABSPATH directory and everything within + wp-config.php is allowed to be higher.

Thanks,

Hi Dustin:
I'm not sure I understand the reply. How do I find out what my ABSPATH is? Also, when you say "BackupBuddy will backup from the WordPress ABSPATH directory and everything within + wp-config.php is allowed to be higher" do you mean wp-config.php and .htaccess are higher than ABSPATH and will be backed up as well? Thanks.
Alex

Hi Alex,

ABSPATH is determined by WordPress programatically so for reason on your server it's determining that it is what it shows it as. Maybe how the index.php is loaded in the subdirectory instead of parent or an .htaccess settings.

On wp-config.php it will grab higher if the wp-config.php is up a level from what it considers the web root. No the .htaccess though.

Thanks,
-Akers

Hi Dustin:
I didn't understand any of that! Could you rephrase please? Mainly, does Backup Buddy back up wp-config.php and .htaccess form a folder above the main WP folder, as per my General Settings screenshot ? Thanks
Alex

Hi Alex,

Can't see the screenshot in the first post. But if the wp-config.php file is in a directory higher than the web root of the WordPress site, yes it can back it up. Though if the .htaccess file is up a directory higher than the web root of the WordPress site it however wouldn't get backed up (though .htaccess isn't always needed for migrations themselves, and once the site is migrated regenerating a new .htaccess by re-saving permalinks is a good practice/habit to do anyway).

Thanks,
-Akers
