An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with WordPress.org or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.
When trying to update plugins, I get:
Download failed. Couldn't resolve host 'downloads.wordpress.org'

Happy to hear that you are using BackupBuddy successfully in your workflow.
The indicated issue is nothing to do with BackupBuddy/importbuddy or the migration process - the problem is being reported by WordPress in relation to WordPress functionality and it indicates a hosting issue whereby WordPress is unable to access the indicated domain because the server is unable to translate the domain into an ip address - you should contact your host support, thanks.
