We are a non-profit organization which uses PayPal. We accept donations and presently use PayPal's IPN (Instant Payment Notification) to send out "thank you" notes when a notation is made. Within the "Thank You" we include the individuals name and amount they donated. In setting up Exchange we see that Exchange is also using the IPN. Where is the IPN file from Exchange and how can it be modified to automatically send out "thank you" notes for different types of donations which include the individuals name and amount of donation. Hi Rick,

At this time, Exchange doesn't have a donation/pay what you want option.  It is something that we've had requested and are considering for a future release.  You can see what we're working on and vote on feature requests on our Exchange Roadmap.  

As for the thank you email, you can go into Exchange > Settings > Email Settings and set up the email that your purchasers receive, including their name, the total of their purchase, etc.

Elise -

I understand that Exchange does not have this - and I've voted for it. The problem is that it is "mission critical" and since we have had it previously I'm fairly sure we can modify the file to do what's needed. We also use the IPN file during our conference so after making a donation we can send them to a URL where they will be able to watch a live video of presentations. Will your system allow for same? The point being I need to know where the IPN file is in order to use the Exchange program. Thanks. Rick

Hey Rick,

If you go into Exchange > Settings > Pages, you can set the Purchase Confirmation page type to WordPress, select the page you'd like to use and it will give you a shortcode you can use on that page that will include the product name, download link, etc. of their purchase.  Then, above or below the shortcode in the page editor, you can add anything you'd like, including a URL.  

You can also include this in their purchase email by going into Exchange > Settings > Email Settings and adding the URL to your Customer Receipt Emails.  

Making changes to the actual functionality would be beyond the scope of the forum.  There isn't an IPN file, but if you go into your Exchange files core-addons, you'll find the PayPal files.  You'll also find the transactions.php file in the api folder.

Thanks. That should work, although I am very new to WordPress and therefore may need some further clarification. The difficulty I have is that the video "Setting up PayPal Standard Secure | iThemes" Step 3 is: "Setup PayPal Instant Payment Notification (IPN)" which requires a URL. The URL being supplied by iThemes Exchange.

But you have written "There isn't an IPN file". So iThemes Exchange is supplying a URL without a file at that URL? I think I need that explained. Thanks. (Oh, and remember to smile.)

Hi Rick,

There isn't a file specifically for just IPN; everything that needs to be addressed with PayPal is done so in the init.php file in /core-addons/transaction-methods/paypal-standard-secure/ (or /paypal-standard/).  For instance, you'll see where the URL that you add to your PayPal IPN settings is generated on about line 744 of that file.
