I understand how this add-on works for a default rate, but I would not want to apply tax to out of state sales. And in good ol' California there are many rates depending on the county. Since this is where I live, I am required to collect and report the correct tax amount. I have read the codex on this. Is there a more in-depth discussion anywhere on ithemes? Thanks!

Hi georgeireton,

There isn't a more complicated or advanced tax option in Exchange at this time.  It is something we are working on developing for the future, but I don't have a timeline for when that will be available.

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks,

Elise

So does this mean I will be taxing folks in all states when they buy? Is there a setting to limit tax to only my nexus state?

Hey georgeireton,

At this time, if you add a tax rate, it is applied to every purchase, no matter the customer's location.  There is not an option to apply the tax only to customers in your state.

Thanks,

Elise

Okay, but why would an online seller do this? Am I missing something?

Hi georgeireton,

Not all online sellers are selling things nationally or internationally.  Some are just selling things locally or even just selling online for in store pickup at their brick and mortar store.  So they wouldn't need multiple tax options.

Again, this is something we're looking to expand in the future, but I don't have a timeline for you.

Thanks,

Elise
