Hi there team -

I have been trying to find a way to prevent unwanted users from registering on my site CatherinesMusic.com. I don't know how they are finding the registration page, but they are.

I tried a few different captcha plugins, none of which worked.

For now I've just disabled registration in General Settings.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks,

-Cat

Hey Cat,

Unfortunately, I don't have any suggestions at this time.  It's been added as a feature request which you can vote for on the Exchange Roadmap, however.

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks,

Elise

Hi Cat and Elise,

I am just setting up my Exchage store now and have the same concerns.  I decided on a work-around but cannot yet report on whether it successfully keeps the bots out.

I want to share it with you and other readers so that you can use it too and also to invite critical feedback if there is something I didn't think of..

- made the wordpress login page (/wp-login.php) pretty using a plugin (Login Logo Editor by Oizueld)
- enabled "anyone can register" in wordpress general settings
- got a recaptcha account and applied it to the log-in and registration pages (using plugin Better Wordpress Recaptcha)
- set up redirections using plugin called Redirection.  2 redirects - exchange login url to /wp-login.php and exchange registration url to /wp-login.php?action=register
- re-direct log-out to homepage using Peter's Login Redirct plugin (otherwise they are at the /wp-login.php)

The only other way to complete a registration without captcha is through the checkout, but the user needs to place items in the basket first, which hopefully will make it harder for bots to access.

My system is falling apart!  Noooo!
The log-in available from the check out page does not display the captcha and will not allow users to log-in without the captcha response (which is not displayed)

Could I modify the checkout page to use the /wp-login links?
Any other ideas related to integrating a captcha using /wp-login redirects?

If this isn't going to work, can you recommend a front-end log-in / registration that is compatible with Exchange?  (not TML)

Thank you for the help.  I really like Exchange, just trying to make it work
Thank you!
Valerie

Any progress on this? I need to make my page live to the world soon without unwanted users registering.

Hi Cat and Valerie,

Unfortunately, I don't have an update on this.  It is on the feature request list, but I can't say when or if it will be added.

We do have another customer using a plugin so that it requires admin approval for any registrations:  http://wordpress.org/plugins/confirm-user-registration/  I haven't tested this myself, but you might give it a try to see if it will work for you.

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks,

Elise

Is there a captcha option that anyone may know about?

Thank you!

Anybody find anything? Since installing Exchange I am now getting dozens of users registering per week, seems like a fundamental option to include something to keep the junk out.
