Multiple Purchase Options For Membership Site

I'm considering using Exchange for a Membership-style e-commerce site and I had a question about a specific feature that doesn't seem to be listed anywhere.

In my site, there's mostly restricted content. My intent was to use the handy Exchange "show excerpt" feature to show an excerpt for content a user doesn't have access to. On that page, they can purchase access to it either by getting a blanket subscription or by purchasing access to just that one page. That seems to be doable with Exchange.

However, my question is this:
I wanted to show both options (but subscription, buy article) as buttons near the bottom of the page, after the excerpt. These buttons would either link to the appropriate product where a user can start the checkout process, or start the checkout process right there. The subscription option covers the whole site, so that seems easily doable by using the "Restricted Content Message" (put the subscribe button linking to the subscription membership product page in there), but...each "post" is a related to a unique product. Thus, I can't put a specific link in the general Restricted Content Message (it would be used for every piece of content), and adding a general link to a store would be way too much work for the user (sifting through the whole store of articles to find the one they want to buy).

Is there any way for me to be able to do this scenario with Exchange? How?

I have some ways it could be done (one way is if each product had it's own unique Restricted Content Message), but those don't seem to be reality right now...so I'm looking for possible solutions. Any thoughts?

Hi Ferrum,

You're correct in that there isn't a way to add a unique Restricted Content Message per product.  I will add this as a feature request, but I don't have a timeline for if/when it would be added.

What you can do though, is add it into the excerpt.  The excerpt is just the WordPress post excerpt, so, when you create your custom excerpt, you could try including the links there.

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks,

Elise

Thanks Elise! I feel a bit silly now...using the excerpt makes perfect sense—why didn't I think of that?! :)

For the record, I'm not sure if unique Restricted Content Messages per product is a viable idea in the grand scheme of things. For example, I would imagine there'd have to be some way to reconcile multiple messages if two or more products applied to the same page. I could see it being helpful in certain situations. For my situation, the excerpt solution should work just fine.

That's okay, Ferrum; just happy to have helped!  :)

I agree, unique Restricted Content Messages per product may not be something we can do, but it could be, too.  So it never hurts to suggest it.

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks,

Elise
