Hello,

I would like to customize the checkout fields based on a client requirements.

I know that I can copy on the theme folders the template files and do changes there... I did it but it look like I did something wrong I am still getting the default fields.

Also is there a way to skip the email field appearing as first step of the checkout process?

My client would like to have the email field added in the second step of the checkout added in after the last_name field.

Can you help?

Thanks

Regards
Roberto

Hi Roberto,

The ability to add custom fields to the registration form is not an option in Exchange at this time, but it has been added as a feature request which you can vote for on the Exchange Roadmap.

I'm not sure what you mean here:

My client would like to have the email field added in the second step of the checkout added in after the last_name field.

When making their purchase, if they are registering when they make their purchase, they are asked for their email address directly after their last name.

If they're already a registered customer, they'll enter their username and password, not their email.

Unless, of course, you have the Guest Checkout add-on enabled.  Then it will ask for their email, but there isn't a way to change that, you'd just have to disable that add-on.  You can also go into the settings for the Guest Checkout add-on and set either the Log In or Registration forms as the default checkout option.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

Elise

Hi Elise,

Thanks for your reply.
Sorry for the confusion, the client doesn't want customers to register but he would like to keep the checkout info so the guest checkout add-on is perfect for the job but I can't see any way to customise the checkout fields e.g. In UK we use post code and not zip. Recently Benjamin Bradley has shown how to use templates in exchange to customise things, unfortunately I am not able to find that webinar.

Hope is more clear now.
Regards
Roberto

Hi Roberto,

I think the templates you're thinking Benjamin talked about were the email templates, not page templates:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXyePZLv1WI

As for changing Zip Code to Post Code, try adding this code to the bottom of your child theme's functions.php file before the closing ?> (if there is one) and see how it works for you:

function my_translated_text_strings( $translated_text, $untranslated_text, $domain ) {

$translated_text = $untranslated_text;

if ( 'LION' === $domain || 'it-l10n-ithemes-exchange' === $domain ) {

switch ( $untranslated_text ) {
case 'Zip Code' :
$translated_text = 'Post Code';
break;
}
}

return $translated_text;
}
add_filter( 'gettext', 'my_translated_text_strings', 10, 3 );
add_filter( 'ngettext', 'my_translated_text_strings', 10, 3 );

Give that a try and let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Elise

Hi Elise,

Sorry for the late reply.

Thanks a lot. It worked!

I take the chance to ask you another question on same topic:

What if I want remove completely a field that the client doesn't need?

Let's say he want me to remove the field "State", how can I do that?

Look forward to your reply.

Regards
Roberto
