If I'm updating a theme to v2, but currently have a child theme of v1 active, do I need to activate back to v1 parent before performing the upgrade?

the easy theme and plugin updater will be used in conjunction with the "add new theme" function in WordPress. If a theme already exists, it will be saved, and replaced by the new theme zip you upload.

The whole point of using a child theme is that you can update the parent theme without affecting (modifications or customisations in) the child theme. But just to make sure, whether or not v1 child themes are compatible with a v2 parent theme depends on which theme you are using, and you might want to ask the theme developer.

hope that helps,
