My website sells expensive digital goods, so I am planning on placing all of the product files in a directory on my website which requires  username and password to access. This login information would then be sent to the customer in their confirmation email after making a purchase.

Whenever I try to access those files directly from my browser, the login prompt appears as expected. However, the download link which iThemes provides when a purchase is made does not function this way. Rather than ask for authentication then proceed with the download, it brings up a blank page with the message "Download Error: Invalid response: 401"

How do I make iThemes work with files located in password-locked directories?

Hi John,

Unfortunately, I don't have a solution for you.  An Exchange script is requesting the file, so you'd have to find a way that didn't password protect the directory if being requested by our script.  

You probably already noticed, but Exchange does obfuscate the download link.  So the customer doesn't know where to find the actual file on your site or if it's stored someplace else like Amazon S3.
