Restaurant Builder Block and Child Theme Released

By Matt Danner • July 27, 2010

Most of you that follow our show and our tweets have probably been hearing a lot about the new Builder Blocks. Builder Blocks basically package everything you need for niche site creation, including custom post types, custom taxonomies, and any needed custom widgets in to one easy to deploy package. For a lot of folks, that last sentence was just jibber-jabber, so we made a video that explains it much better.

We are very excited to release our very first Builder Block today, alongside a Builder Child-Theme that has specific styling for it. We are including both the Builder Restaurant Block and Builder Child – Entree as a special bonus to Builder customers as well as All Access Pass customers.

To install the Builder Block, just download it from your member area and install it in your plugins directory. The child-theme is installed, as usual, in the themes folder.

All of us at iThemes are excited to see this released, and we can’t wait to make more Builder Blocks. Future plans include RealEstate, Podcasting, and Travel Blocks.

Download both now in your member area, and let us know what you think!

    Looks great!
How about a spa menu block?

  2. Russ says:

Nice addition guys! One quick question – how do Builder, Builder Block and the child themes look and work on mobile devices?

Also, how about considering releasing a generic, configurable child theme/builder block plugin so folks can tweak them to suit the industry they are working in? Just need to provide a lot of options and tutorials to make it workable.

If not, please consider dentists and chiropractors in future releases.

    Thanks.

    Russ

  3. Wow! Very well executed. You guys are taking it up a notch. Best of luck and continued success. If you keep knocking it out of the park like this, you’ll only get better and better. Awesome.

  4. Thank you iThemes team.
You guys continue to amaze me with the innovative approach to website development.
This is just another tool in our arsenal, that empowers the end users to create and mange our sites.
Oh.. and great timing, I just had a restaurant call our staff for some web work.

You guys rock! Your wordpress themes keeps on getting better and better! I look forward to other themes you guys put out.

  8. Alex Navas says:

Great job. Way to keep innovating. Would definitely like the same functionality in a generic way for other niches.

  9. Bjorn Voon says:

Fantastic. That just opens up more markets and more niches for the use of Builder.
Will there be a builder for the fitness industry too?

  10. Ithemes has definitely come through again. Just when I thought there couldn’t be any improvement in the builder theme you guys prove me wrong again.

  11. Alan says:

    Great work!

Now you’re definitely moving in the right direction.

A brilliant concept which can only lead to much less work on our part when designing and developing “industry specific” websites for business clients using Builder as our core theme.

Get this right and you’ve got a customer for life (me).

I go along with Russ about his thoughts on releasing a “generic and configurable child theme/builder block plugin” so that we can accommodate business types “outside” of the “already done to death” restaurants industry (not too sure about his take on dentists and chiropractors though).

As you may already know — there are many hundreds if not thousands of different types of businesses out there that we could be servicing correctly, if the right tools are readily available and at our full disposal.

You’re the innovators, and you’ve now put the first “BLOCK” into place.

Strong buildings are built on strong foundations.

Keep those blocks coming — there’s a few more courses to be built yet before the “BUILDER” has fully completed the job!

    Best wishes,

    Alan

This sounds fantastic. Just a little confused on using child themes, is this a must with builder? Also could you look at developing a health and fitness builder block theme as the market is huge.

Although I’m just starting to scratch the surface of all this, I see the potential in adding a successful web design arm to my existing copywriting business using your themes.

Question: Have you given any thought to developing a Builder (would it be “block” or “child theme”? Not sure…) theme for musicians and/or artists? Thanks!

  15. Paul Flood says:

this is pretty impressive. The real estate niche would be huge for me and gets my vote!
Reviews is another with great potential.
