Solid Backups includes support for Solid Stash, our secure off-site storage destination for your Solid Backups backups.

Storing your Solid Backups backups off-site means you always have an insurance plan if your site goes down, so all Solid Backups purchases come preloaded with 1GB of free Solid Backups Stash storage space. From our experience, this is usually enough for one complete Solid Backups backup or two database-only backups of your site – so go ahead and back that thing up!

Solid Stash is easy to set up and use. And since it’s built into Solid Backups, you don’t need a separate account on another site to make it work.

Setting Up Solid Stash as a Remote Destination

1. Make sure your current version of Solid Backups is 3.1 or higher.

Support for Solid Stash was introduced in Solid Backups 3.1 (formerly BackupBuddy), so you’ll need the latest version of Solid Backups to take advantage of Solid Backups Stash. To see the version of Solid Backups you’re currently running, visit the Plugins page from within the WordPress dashboard or the Getting Started page within the Solid Backups menu. Your latest version number will be visible from both places.

Don’t have the latest version? Current Solid Backups members can update from within the WordPress dashboard or by logging into your SolidWP Member Panel for the latest Solid Backups file version download.

2. From within the WordPress dashboard, visit the Backups menu and click “Destinations“. Click Add New Destination. On the Destinations page, click the “Add New” tab beside My Stash.

On the Remote Destinations page, click Solid Backups Stash.

3. Enter your SolidWP username and password and click “Submit.”

This should be the same username and password you used to purchase Solid Backups and to manage your Solid Backups licenses.

4.  Use the default settings or personalize your own and click “Test Settings.”

We’ve provided default settings that are pretty standard for most Solid Backups users, but these settings can be personalized depending on your needs:

  • Destination name – For example, “My Stash.” This is for your convenience only.
  • Database backup limit – This is the maximum number of database backup archives to be stored in this specific destination. If this limit is met, the oldest backup of this type will be deleted. For no limit, enter zero.
  • Full backup limit – This is the maximum number of full backup archives to be stored in this specific destination. Again, if this limit is met, the oldest backup of this type will be deleted. Enter zero for no limit.
  • Max chunk size (MB) – Enter 0 for no chunking or a minimum of 5 if enabling. This is the maximum file size to send in one whole piece to Solid Backups Stash. Files larger than this will be transferred in pieces up to this file size one part at a time. This allows the transfer of larger files than your server may allow by breaking up the second process. Chunked files may be delayed if there is little site traffic to trigger them.
  • Encrypt connection – Enable connecting over SSL. When enabled, all transfers will be encrypted with SSL encryption. Disabling this may aid in connection troubles but results in lessened security. Note: Once your files arrive on our server they are encrypted using AES256 encryption – that’s the same level of encryption that the US government authorizes for top secret government documents! They are automatically decrypted upon download as needed.
  • Manage all files – Enabling allows access to manage all Stash files (not just this site). When enabled, you have access to manage and view all files stored in your Solid Stash account. You will be prompted for your password to access backups for sites other than this one. If disabled, this option is entirely removed for added security. For example, you wish to disable this feature if a client has access and you wan to keep them away from your files. This option can’t be changed without deleting and recreating the Solid Stash destination for added security.
5.  After a successful test of your settings, click “+ Add Destination.”

All done! Your Solid Stash is now all set up. Your Solid Backups backups can now be sent manually or through scheduling to your Solid Stash.

Manual Backup to Solid Stash

1. To perform your first manual backup to Solid Stash, visit the Backup page. Click “Database Only” or “Complete Backup” to start a backup. You’ll see this page as the backup runs:
3. Click the “Add New Destination” button and then select “Solid Stash” from the next prompt.
4. From the Destinations page, view your Stash Backups.

Scheduling Backups to Solid Stash

Backups can also be set up to send to Solid Stash through Solid Backups’s Scheduling feature.

1. To set up a scheduled backup to send to Solid Stash, visit the Schedules page from the Backups menu. Click Add Schedule.
2. Complete your backup scheduling settings and click “+Add Remote Destination.” Select “Solid Stash,” and then Click Add New Destination +.

Managing Your Solid Stash Files

There are two places to manage your Solid Stash files:

1. From the Solid Central Dashboard

If you’re using Solid Central to manage your WordPress site updates, you can also manage your Solid Stash storage space from the Central dashboard. To get started, log in to the Central dashboard using your SolidWP username and password.

From the navigation on the left, click Stash. From here, you can get a visual of your current Solid Stash storage usage, download each backup file that’s been sent to your Solid Stash account from your synced sites, and delete these backup files from your Solid Central account.

2. The Remote Destinations page within Solid Backups

From the Backups menu, click “Destinations” and click the “My Stash” tab. From here, you can copy your backup files to local, get a download link or delete the file. You can also view a status bar of your total Solid Stash storage usage:

Deleting Solid Stash Files

To protect your backups, files can only be deleted in two ways: 1) from your Stash via Solid Backups file management in your WordPress admin area and 2) the My Stash page in the Solid Central dashboard.

To delete Stash files from your WordPress dashboard:

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard, and visit the Remote Destinations page.
  2. Next to Solid Stash, click View Remote Files.
  3. You’ll now see a list of all your files sent to Stash. Check the box next to any file and click Delete.

To delete Stash files from the Central dashboard:

  1. Log in to the Central dashboard and click My Stash.
  2. Click the “x” button next to any file you wish to delete.
