New in BackupBuddy 3.1.6: ImportBuddy cPanel Database Creation, Customizable Email Notifications & More

The latest version release of BackupBuddy brought several great feature additions and enhancements we know you’ll appreciate — from customizable email notifications to cPanel database creation within ImportBuddy. Just make sure you’re running the latest version of BackupBuddy to take advantage of all the great new things in BackupBuddy 3.1.6.

FEATURE: cPanel databases can now be created from within ImportBuddy.

We just made it even easier to perform a restore or migration with BackupBuddy! Now you can provide your cPanel login credentials and BackupBuddy will connect to cPanel to create your database and set permissions — all so you don’t have to worry about performing this complicated step.

From Step 3 within BackupBuddy, click the new “Have cPanel? Click to create a database” button:

From here, you can enter your cPanel URL, username and password to create your new database:

Again, this is just another way we’re hoping to make it super simple to migrate or restore your WordPress sites with BackupBuddy. We’ve known this has been a struggling point for many users, especially during their first time using BackupBuddy, so we hope adding this new feature will help make using ImportBuddy even easier.

FEATURE: Ability to customize email notification text with variable support

Now you can easily customize the wording for the subject and body text of your email notifications for “backup started,” “backup completed” and error notifications. You can also use variables to determine which information is passed along in the email, too.

To activate this feature, visit the Settings page from within BackupBuddy. You’ll find the new “Customize Email” feature in the Email Notification Recipients section:

ENHANCEMENT: A one-time user password can be entered upon ImportBuddy download.

Now you no longer have to enter a password to start using ImportBuddy —  it can be set on the script download. This makes setting your ImportBuddy password more quick and convenient, plus it’s great for one-time-user passwords for clients:

From the Migrate or Restore page, click the ImportBuddy “Download” link to either enter a new password for the download or leave blank to use your default ImportBuddy password (assigned on the BackupBuddy Settings page).

FEATURE: ImportBuddy log now viewable on Step 5 just before cleanup for advanced users or troubleshooting/support.

If you encounter any trouble while using ImportBuddy, now you can easily view your log file on Step 5 of the import:

This information can be easily copy/pasted to tech support if needed, making troubleshooting easier.

ENHANCEMENT: ImportBuddy now checks for existing index.htm/html file before restore to warn of it potentially blocking WordPress from loading.

Sometimes you may have an index.htm/html file in the directory you’ve restored to and on some servers, and this can prevent the loading of WordPress. Now you’ll receive a warning if you have an existing index.htm/html file as one additional layer of checks BackupBuddy performs to help make imports as smooth as possible.
