Professor Laura King came up with the exercise in a 2000 study and it had such an impact it has been used prolifically by others.
The exercise goes as follows:
“Think about your life in the future. Imagine that everything has gone as well as it possibly could. You have worked hard and succeeded at accomplishing all of your life goals. Think of this as the realization of all of your life dreams. Now, write about what you imagined.”
I took some time and did the Best Possible Self exercise last week and gotta say I loved it. One nuance I did was to also break out every priority area of my life … starting with my marriage and role as Husband, then Father, CEO/Founder of iThemes, Financial, Speaker, Writer, Coach/Mentor, Spiritual/Faith, Mental/Emotional, Physical, Happiness/Joy, Mental Health Champion, Oklahoman etc.
I’ve written in the past about daily affirmations and visualization and even Fortune Cookie Affirmations, so I truly loved doing this particular exercise and even shared the Best Possible Husband part with my wife, Lindsey.
What about you? What are the areas you want to flesh out your Best Possible Self?
