New! Never Miss a Critical Security Alert with the New Message Center in iThemes Security Pro

Written by Michael Moore on June 6, 2019

Last Updated on June 5, 2020

With the release of iThemes Security Pro 6.0, we have added some subtle improvements and another way for you to stay current on the security health of your WordPress website with a new Security Admin Message Menu.

Current iThemes Security Pro, Plugin Suite & Toolkit customers will find version 6.0.0 of the iThemes Security Pro plugin available as an automatic update from your WordPress dashboard (for licensed sites) or as a manual download from the iThemes Member Panel. Save time by updating all your sites at once from the iThemes Sync dashboard.

New! Never Miss Another Crucial Security Message

Traditional WordPress admin notifications can sometimes take over the entire WordPress admin dashboard. The number of non-critical admin notifications we see can make it easy to start ignoring them altogether.

But if your site fails a malware scan or if there are unexpected file changes, you definitely need to know. The Security Admin Message Menu is the new convenient way to view all of your critical security notices in one place.

The 6 Different Admin Notices in iThemes Security Pro

You’ll now see six different admin message types generated by the iThemes Security Pro plugin to keep you aware of the security activity on your website.

The 6 Admin Notices

Admin Notice Description
1. Site Scan Failed This message will generate if the Site Scan runs into an error when trying to scan your site.
2. Malware /Vulnerability  Found This message will display when a vulnerability or malware is found while scanning your site.
3. File Changes This message will report if a file change scan identified changes on your site. Review your security logs to see if the changes made were unexpected.
4. reCAPTCHA Errors This message displays reCAPTCAHA errors. Get notified when Google reports an issue with the reCAPTCHA keys.
5. Network Protection This message provides a reminder to enroll your site in the iThemes Brute Force Network.
6. Licensing Reminder This message is a reminder to license iThemes Security Pro so that you can receive version updates.
Have another security notice you’d like to see added to your message menu? Let us know in the comments below.

How to Dismiss and Disable Security Admin Messages

To dismiss an individual notice, click the close icon to the left of the notice.

The Admin Message Menu allows you to see only the notifications you want to see. To disable a specific notification click the settings/cog wheel and then click the switch to the right of the notification you don’t want in your Message Menu.

Note: You will not be able to dismiss the reCAPTCHA notice. It is essential to know when a security measure isn’t working as expected. Once the error has been corrected the notification will clear.

Prefer traditional admin notifications? Click the Hide Security Menu in Admin Bar on the Security > Settings > Global Settings page and the security notifications will revert to a traditional notification.

Improved Licensing Notification

I wanted to take the time to single out the new Licensing notice. Before the release of iThemes Security Pro 6.0, we would only prompt you to activate your license once. After installing iThemes Security Pro, an admin notice would appear asking you to activate your license, but if you dismissed or navigated to a different page the licensing prompt would disappear never to be seen again.

To receive updates or to even see that an update is available, your iThemes license needs to be active. With the new licensing notice, we can remind you to license iThemes Security Pro, and you can stay up to date.

New! Improved IP Tracker

Included with this the 6.0.1 release is also an update to our IP lookup. Click any IP in the Security Logs to see where the IP is located based on the data provided by ipTRACKERonline.com.
