Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) is a developer plugin that allows anyone to quickly and easily take control of your WordPress edit screens and custom field data. In this video, AJ Morris will cover what ACF is and how to create a custom home page with some options.
What are Advanced Custom Fields?
Advanced Custom Fields is a WordPress plugin that allows you to add extra content fields to your WordPress post and page edit screens. WordPress, out of the box, comes with the ability to have custom fields, but they aren’t always user-friendly. These extra content fields are more commonly referred to as Custom Fields and can allow you to build websites faster and educate your clients more quickly.
Custom fields are a native part of WordPress and appear on pages, posts and custom post types. With the ACF plugin installed, you can customize which fields show and how they are styled. For example, you could set a ‘Hero Image’ for your home page. You can use the ACF plugin to include an Image field and show this field when editing the home page in your WordPress admin dashboard.
To get even more ideas of all the custom fields that are possible with the ACF plugin, check out the Field Type guide. Just a few of the custom fields are:
- Text box
- Text area
- Radio button
- True False
- WYSIWYG Editor
- Color Picker
- Date Picker
- and more!
