I remember the first time I attended a WordCamp. It was 2009 in Phoenix. Being from Michigan, I was grateful they had their WordCamp early in the year, so I could get out of the bitter cold. I was this kid back then that wanted to make it big in the WordPress space. I was working for a small theme company that offered to bring me out to a WordCamp, meet face-to-face with the team and get a chance to experience what WordCamps were like.
That trip, that WordCamp was most memorable to me than any other WordCamp I’ve attended (and I’ve attended a lot in the last 4 years alone) because it was here I was introduced to these two guys that were building this thing called iThemes. They had this idea of building themes and plugins for WordPress.
iThemes was one of the first in the space to build a business around WordPress (outside of Automatic) and you wouldn’t believe the number of people that were coming up to them wanting to know what they were doing, why they were doing it and how others could build things similarly.
Fast-forward to today, I am helping to run this business unit, and I couldn’t be more proud of where they took iThemes. What’s crazy about this, is that I can pinpoint the day that my life (career-wise) changed. It was meeting Cory and Matt.
That’s what the WordPress community can bring. It can bring out new ideas, new friendships, even new employment opportunities. And WordCamps are where it happens.
Heading to WordCamp US 2019
It’s that time of year again. Seems like everyone in the WordPress community is coming together for WordCamp US. Taking place November 1-3rd in St. Louis, MO (The Gateway to the West here in the US), we’re sending several of our own down to the event.
The iThemes team would love to meet up for coffee or just have a conversation about your experience with our plugins and training.
WordCamp US 2019 is an opportunity for WordPress users to gather together, deepen friendships, engage and even partner with others as part of the larger WordPress community. There will be plenty of coffee breaks, meals, of course, the State of the Word.
There will be around 80+ speakers between regular sessions, workshops and community sessions. Not to mention the hallway track. You can check out the full schedule to see what might interest you.
Will we see you there?
We’re excited to be sending several of us to WordCamp US this year and would love to network and meet with our customers. If you are planning on attending, we’d love to meet you and hear your feedback. This year we have a good portion of our leadership team and several others attending:
- Matt Danner, General Manager
- AJ Morris, Product Innovation and Marketing Manager
- Lew Ayotte, Product Development Manager
- Elise Alley, Support Supervisor
- Nathan Ingram, iThemes Training Host
- Timothy Rae-Jacobs, iThemes Security Developer
With so many iThemes employees and customers in the same place, I figured it would be great to offer an opportunity to meet with us via scheduled meetings. We’d love to hear how you are using our products, what issues you have or what we can do to improve them. Just select a time that works for you below.
If you are attending WordCamp US, I want to encourage you to go up and meet the people you’ve talked to online. Get to know them. Get to know others that are in the space. It can be a lot, trust me, I know. But it can be so rewarding for you to get out of your comfort zone and introduce yourself to people.
And if you want someone to help introduce you to others. Just come find me. I’ll be around the Liquid Web booth and the rest of the iThemes team. And if that’s too out of your comfort zone, well then let’s have coffee.
