BackupBuddy allows you to migrate a backup file from your current site to a new site without ever having to leave your WordPress dashboard.
The first thing you’ll want to do is go into your BackupBuddy settings page and set the ImportBuddy password. Then, you’ll want to create a new remote destination for the server that you’ll be migrating the site to. You’ll give the destination a name, your server address, username and the password. And you can add a remote path if you’d like. Add the migration URL.
You can set an archive limit if you’d like. Then select your transfer mode and encryption.
Once you’ve entered all your information be sure to test your new destination. If that test is successful, you can then add the new destination. You can then go to the migrate and restore page in BackupBuddy and select the file that you would like to migrate.
Now you can select the FTP remote destination or create a new destination. Make sure that your destination site URL is correct and click begin migration. BackupBuddy will upload your backup file to the new location, this may take a moment.
Once it’s finished uploading, BackupBuddy will now take you through the rest of the steps needed to finish the migration of your site.
Step 1 – Choose your backup file, the one you just sent.
Step 2 – BackupBuddy will unzip all the files for you.
Step 3 – Enter your database and URL settings. For your database settings, if you use C-panel, you can create a new database. If you’ve already created a database on your server, simply enter that information on the Database Setting screen. Test your database settings when done. If the test is successful move on to the next step.
Step 4 – Database import. BackupBuddy handles this for you.
Step 5 – Database migration, here BackupBuddy shows you any update to file paths, etc. Before you go to the last step, check out the site where you are importing to and make sure everything appears as it should. Test any links. If everything looks good, go on to step 6.
Step 6 – Clean up and remove any temporary files left by BackupBuddy.
Awesome! You’ve now migrated your site to a new location without ever leaving your WordPress Dashboard.
